In the end, the issue seems to be getting worse with the misleading indications of kilometers in used cars, according to the Cyprus Consumers' Association.

According to a statement from the Association, the Customs Department, in a recent letter to the Association on August 07, informed that very soon it will include as mandatory information during the clearance of a used car, the indication of the number of kilometers traveled by the car. In addition, the database of the Customs Department will be at the disposal of the Department of Road Transport during the registration of the vehicle.

As it is noted in the announcement, in case the Department of Road Transport finds that an operation was carried out on the car's odometer, it will not proceed with its registration and will report the case to the Competent Authorities.

It is noted that the problem created by the deception of consumers with the misleading indication on the car odometer, is not only economical, both in its original purchase price and maintenance costs, but is also directly related to maintaining a high level of road safety and the burden on the environment.
