The District Court of Larnaca today imposed an immediate two-year prison sentence on two unaccompanied minors aged 17 from Syria, who were found guilty, following a hearing held behind closed doors, for the case of arson of a hotel, which operated as a " Structure of Unaccompanied Minor Immigrants" in the area of ​​Oroklini.

KYPE information from the police states that the two minors were facing a total of three charges, two for arson and one for conspiracy to commit a felony.

A third juvenile who was also charged in the case was eventually acquitted and cleared of the charges.

It is recalled that the offenses were committed in the early hours of June 5 in a hotel in Oroklini, which functioned as a structure and in which approximately 80 unaccompanied minors were accommodated.

A fire had initially broken out on the evening of June 4 in mattresses and was extinguished with the assistance of the Fire Service. Then, in the early hours of June 5th, a second fire was noticed which caused extensive damage to the second floor of the hotel, as well as to common areas on the third floor.

No minors or members of the Social Welfare Services staff who were in the building were injured in the fires.

It is noted that after the two fires, the unaccompanied minors were transferred to other structures in Larnaca.
