In Larnaca, eight people were arrested during a police operation against illegal employment, illegal employment and undeclared work.
According to a statement from the Police Communications Branch, "in Larnaca, the Police and the Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance continued their actions to combat the crimes of illegal employment, illegal employment, as well as undeclared work, with a new coordinated inspection operation, which was carried out yesterday, Tuesday, August 19."
The inspection operation "was carried out at 9.30 on Tuesday morning, in an apartment building under construction in the Larnaca district. During the inspections, seven persons, third-country nationals, were arrested, who were found to be working illegally in the construction site, without a permit from the competent authority, while it was found that two of the seven persons are illegally in Cyprus."
It is added that "a case of illegal employment is being investigated against the seven suspects, while a case of illegal employment is being investigated against their three employers. One of the three employers was located in the building and arrested by members of the Police, while the other two were summoned and presented at the local Police Station."
It is noted that yesterday's police operation was attended by members of the Aliens and Immigration Service - YAM (Larnaca Provincial Unit), members of the Green Line Surveillance and Countermeasures of Migration Flows Sub-Directorate, as well as officers of the Inspection Service, the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance.
Furthermore, "the officers of the Inspection Service found violations regarding the Legislation on undeclared work, for which they issued eight notices to pay an administrative fine, totaling 41.050 euros."
