M. Iliadis: The Governors "knocked out" the naturalization program

The Audit Service published its Report on the Cyprus Investment Program today, with heaps of findings.

In his reaction, the candidate for the presidency, Marios Iliadis, states that "The misdeeds and the intertwined actions of the Governors are described in the blackest colors and are yet another resounding message to the civil society of our country".

This announcement:

The complicity or even guilty tolerance of the current government in the sinful program of naturalizations, which humiliated our country internationally, is proven again through the relevant report of the Audit Service, which is published today.

The misdeeds and entangled actions of the Governors are described in the blackest colors and are yet another resounding message to the civil society of our country: The current governance has taken the level of corruption and entanglement to an unprecedented and shameful level. Never in the past, the governance of the country has lowered the moral standards of behavior of the representatives of political power to such a low level, although the phenomenon of corruption unfortunately existed at the expense of the Republic of Cyprus. The current government should have neither continuity nor continuity, since if something like this happens, then the future of our country is set to be ominous.

Our State lost billions in revenue with the illegal practices of the Government. While the naturalization program was characterized as a "lifeline" for the Cypriot Economy, however, the Governors "disregarded" it and exploited it in many cases for their own benefit and not for the common good.

The Governors and those who participated in making the relevant decisions gave the green light to a large number of naturalizations while knowingly they did not meet the relevant criteria. They did not even hesitate to naturalize world-known criminals, wanted persons and even terrorists! There is no end to the shame for all the honest citizens of this place, who see the name of our country dragged internationally again.

In addition to the rapid revocation of all illegal naturalizations, the competent authorities of the state must investigate the cases without interruption and where responsibilities are found to assign them. The pelecys must fall heavily on those who abused the position of power they had or still have. The penalties must be severe and dissuasive, so as to set an example for anyone who in the future tries to get involved in corruption and entanglement phenomena.

In conclusion, I repeat again, that after the abyss of corruption in which the current government has plunged us for the last 9 and a half years, an honest and reliable new leadership in the place will be a blessing for our country and a redemption for our people. Only a tested and proven honest leadership can put its words into practice and bring hope back to the people and our country.
