The medical examiner Marios Matsakis spoke on the front page about the controversial case of the death of the national guard Thanasis Nikolaou and the results of the investigation after the exhumation of his bones.

He initially said that in order for the bones to be sent for examination abroad, a court order needs to be issued, adding that the law firm representing the family should ask the court to issue this order.

He stressed that it is a difficult and complex case, explaining that even today he can demonstrate what had happened then. "There are very old cases in which the medical examiner can come to conclusions."

He added that there were cases of missing persons in which he himself had died, adding that he had examined forty-year-old data on bones damaged by the Turks.

At the same time, he stated that the investigation was incomplete. "There are some things we need to take seriously in Cyprus." He explained that the law governing these cases is from colonialism and the time when there were no medical examiners.

Finally, he said that one can not expect a rural police station to investigate a serious case.
