It was May 25, 2021 when the then 32-year-old Xanthos Kyriakou, an Officer of the National Guard, inside the National Guard and while on duty had a fatal accident which cost him his life.

Specifically, the accident occurred during the training of a military unit in the area of ​​Trooditissa.

The unfortunate Xanthos was fatally injured, when the rope he was holding during an exercise in an area next to the Trooditissa picnic area was cut, as a result of which Xanthos hit the rocks successively and fell on the cliff.

His death plunged the whole of Cyprus into mourning.

Several testimonies have been given and specific investigations are expected that will solve the mystery surrounding the circumstances under which the 27-year-old SYOP died inside the camp.

As Christos Pieris stressed in his statements to ANT1, the investigations are at an advanced stage of investigations. He also added that when the scene is clarified and the necessary procedures are completed, official answers will be given for the unjust loss of the 27-year-old.
