Decisions on easing measures against the pandemic in Cyprus are being taken slowly, at a time when other countries have chosen faster rates.

Speaking to the state channel, the member of the Advisory Scientific Committee Dr. Maria Koliou said that the reason they are careful in the relaxations is because they do not want to cancel them if a more contagious variant appears.

"If you remember, the mask was taken off by many countries as soon as there was a reduction in cases and when Omicron appeared, they tried to bring it back to the citizens. We want to be careful in the relaxations because we want to come later and undo the relaxations from the people ", he explained.

Regarding the scenarios for the next period, Dr. Koliou said that, decisions have been made from time to time to de-escalate the measures, however "we do not want to make plans in the long run".

Dr. Koliou expressed concern about the re-infection of citizens due to Omicron 2.
