Government employment in September 2023 decreased by 373 people (-0,7%) compared to the corresponding month of 2022 and reached 52.228 people, according to the Cyprus Statistical Service.
This decrease is mainly due to the transfer of Hourly Staff from the Ministry of Health to the State Health Services Organization, which is included in the Broad Public Sector, from January 2023.
In the permanent staff there is a decrease of 708 people (-2,8%), from 25.610 to 24.902 people. In temporary staff there is an increase of 1.886 people (10,2%) reaching 20.404 compared to 18.518 people in September 2022.
A decrease is observed in all categories of permanent staff, while an increase is observed in all categories of temporary staff. The biggest decrease is seen in the permanent staff of the Education Service (-2,9%) and the biggest increase in the temporary staff of the Education Service (15,1%). Hourly Staff shows a decrease (-18,3%).
Compared to August 2023 there was an increase of 0,5%. The biggest changes are observed in the permanent and temporary staff of the Education Service (decrease -2,4% and increase 10,0% respectively). Employment in the remaining staff categories remained close to August, 2023 levels.
