Domestic tourism is in full swing for the three days of the Flood, since months after the total lockdown, the Cypriots rushed to organize a three-day vacation mainly in the coastal areas.

According to the General Manager of PASYXE, Filokypros Rousounidis, the Holiday Grant Scheme from the Ministry of Tourism played an important factor in getting the tourist accommodation to reach 50% of its fullness.

"The occupancy of most accommodations is over 50% but the numbers are much lower than usual. "Before the pandemic, tourist accommodation reached 100% of its occupancy due to tourists from abroad," Mr. Rousounidis told SigmaLive.

The Cypriots showed more preference for hotels in the coastal areas, however there is a number who chose accommodation in mountainous areas.

Regarding the prices, he stated that they are very low since many Cypriots chose to spend the three days taking advantage of the subsidy offered by the Ministry of Tourism.

"A double room with breakfast costs 30 euros and with 35% of the State Department subsidy, the customer pays about 24 euros for a double for each day," he explained.

Regarding the tourist accommodations that are outside the Plan, he clarified that in these cases the prices are much lower. "For example, a four-star hotel can cost 80 euros a day instead of 60 euros with the subsidy."

It may give a little financial breath to the tourist businesses during the three days of the Flood, but according to Mr. Rousounidis it does not provide financial relief since the companies see the whole of their week and not only the three days.
