Proud of the potato they made for the community of Xylofagos, Marios Petrou and Panagiotis Aggeli, owners of the company Statues of Cyclamen to the Workers, appeared in their statements to Insider.
As we were told 5 months ago, they were approached by the community leader of Xylofagos, Georgios Koko Tassos, to make the potato that went viral in Cyprus and abroad.
"The mayor came and found us asking us to make this particular potato. In fact, he brought us potatoes from his area and we were asked to make a model of 40 points. He then took the model to the community council and the project was approved. We were asked to make a potato in 4x2 dimensions ", they said.
The construction took several man-hours as explained as the project was not easy to complete.
"The construction was made of iron, special mesh and artistic clay. It was a little difficult for us, the colors of the potato, but with hard work we managed. "We are sorry that some people reacted negatively to the project, as they aimed to discredit the community leader Xylofagos and we are sure that once the project is completed, it will be a point of reference for the whole of Cyprus," they said.
They also stressed that the cost of the potato, including shipping, amounted to € 8.000.
Concluding, they revealed that after the success with the potato, other communities approached them. "So far, Mazotos has approached us for the construction of a 6-meter artichoke and Avgorou for the construction of a pomegranate, while we have received blows from other communities as well," they said.
