The Fire Service rescued 75-year-old Maria Papamichael, who died in a new fatal road collision that occurred yesterday afternoon in Larnaca.
According to a statement from the Force, at 19:04 yesterday a call was received about a traffic accident on the Kofinos - Kornos road, after a head-on collision between two private vehicles.
The Police and the Fire Service responded with a team and a rescue vehicle from E.M.A.K. The passenger of one vehicle was rescued by members of the Fire Service using rescue equipment and handed over to the ambulance crew for transport to the T.A.E.P. of the Larnaca General Hospital.
The driver of the said vehicle, as well as a little girl who was also riding in the vehicle, got out before the arrival of the Fire Service and were transported by ambulance to the T.A.E.P. of the Nicosia General Hospital. In addition, the driver of the second vehicle also got out before the arrival of the Fire Service and was transported by ambulance to T.A.E.P. of the Larnaca General Hospital.
How the accident happened
It is noted that a car driven by a 58-year-old man on the old Kornos - Kofinos road, under conditions that are being investigated, at some point of the road, collided with a car driven by a 32-year-old woman, with a 75-year-old woman as a passenger and a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in the back seats in a child seat.
The collision injured the occupants of both vehicles, with the 75-year-old woman being trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle and freed after the intervention of EMAK members.
Then the 58-year-old and the 75-year-old woman were taken to the Larnaca General Hospital, while the 32-year-old and the minor girl were taken to the Nicosia General Hospital.
Due to the critical state of the 75-year-old's health, she was transferred to the Nicosia General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after midnight.
Larnaca Traffic Police continues the examinations.
