The Pancyprian Union of Consumers and Quality of Life calls for an immediate reduction in the price of electricity and expresses the hope that this will be the result of the announced meeting at the Presidential Palace on the issue, next Friday.

It said in a statement that increases in fuel and electricity prices had led to horizontal and uncontrollable increases in food, basic necessities, construction and services, and blamed the state for "inability to control and crack down on profiteering".

In the announcement, the Union calls on CERA to reduce the purchase price by the EAC of the energy produced from RES, close to the originally estimated amount of 6 cents per kilowatt hour and not 11 cents and considers that it should be decided to tax the companies' unexpected profits. RES, with a high percentage (90% was made in Greece and other countries) and the amount that will be collected to be returned to the EAC consumers with an immediate and proportional reduction of its charges.

Regarding pollutants, he says that "unacceptable and unconstitutional imposition and VAT" should be abolished and that the amounts returned from the EU to the government should be used transparently and for the most part to help vulnerable consumers.

It also calls for the acceleration of the import and use of natural gas by the EAC.
