New Cryptocurrency Scam – How a 36-year-old was scammed

Through a QR code that he was asked to scan, during an online communication, a 36-year-old man in Limassol allegedly lost a large amount of crypto-currencies.

According to the Police, the 36-year-old complained that yesterday, Wednesday, that he was a victim of fraud, after an online communication he had with an unknown person, who on November 5 showed an interest in buying cryptocurrencies.

As the complainant reported, after they reached an agreement, online communication was arranged again yesterday, during which the 36-year-old requested the transfer of a very small amount of money, in order to verify whether the transaction can be processed.

The unidentified person showed the complainant a QR code (quick response code), which the 36-year-old had to scan in order for the money transfer to take place, which he did.

Then, the complainant found that all his money disappeared from his electronic wallet and reported the case to TAE Limassol.
