The Cyprus Banks Association warns of a new scam with astute people visiting citizens' homes, pretending to be bank employees and pretending to update account details, with the aim of extracting personal bank account access data.

According to his announcement, the incidents have been recorded, following related complaints from elderly people, who did not fall victim to the fraud because they suspected that something was wrong and did not proceed with full disclosure of the information requested of them.

The Cyprus Banks Association notes that banks, at regular intervals, communicate with their customers to update information exclusively through official communication channels. The channels in question are printed and electronic correspondence, telephone communication and live service and updating of information in bank branches. Banks do not visit people's homes to update information.

It also notes that account information, passwords and card PINs are not requested during the information update process. Customers' personal data is only requested in specific circumstances and with two steps of confirmation when accessing the account or when processing transactions. Never in person and even outside the bank.

Therefore, it calls on the public to be vigilant and suspicious and not to proceed with providing details of accounts in a similar situation.
