Yesterday afternoon, an 83-year-old woman in Nicosia fell victim to a phone scam where scammers pretend to be doctors, with the scammers managing to extort a sum of €650 from her. The case was reported to the Police and is being investigated by the TAE Nicosia.
According to what the 83-year-old reported to the Police, around 4 p.m. yesterday, she received a phone call, on the fixed line of her home, from an unknown man. The stranger allegedly asked her for money for surgery, which her grandson allegedly needed to undergo. A few hours later, an unknown man visited the 83-year-old at her home, who took the sum of €650 from the complainant.
On the occasion of this case as well, the Police once again recommend special attention to the public, stressing that such telephone communications and claims are false and are intended to deceive citizens and steal sums of money. It also appeals to the public, in the event that they receive a similar type of phone call, to inform the Police immediately, by contacting the nearest Police Station or the District Police Department, or the Citizen's Line, at the telephone number 1460.
