The 25-year-old motorcyclist who was injured in a traffic accident in Paphos on June 24, died on Wednesday night. According to the Police, his relatives have been informed about the death of the 25-year-old, while the legal autopsy for the exact causes of his death will be carried out at a later stage.
As the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, told KYPE, the road collision happened around 6pm on Sunday, June 23, on Makariou Avenue, in Chloraka, when a car, under circumstances that are being investigated, collided with a motorcycle driven by a 25-year-old man.
As a result of the collision, the 25-year-old was injured and transferred to Paphos General Hospital. He was taken into hospital after it was found he had a fractured jaw and right leg, and he had an intra-abdominal bleeding pneumothorax, he said.
Subsequently, he continued, due to the seriousness of his condition, he was transferred to the Nicosia Hospital where he was hospitalized all this time, while he died on Wednesday night.
According to Mr. Nikolaou, two persons aged 43 and 41 were arrested for the fatal traffic accident. The 43-year-old who was initially declared as the passenger of the car seems to have been the driver, as the Police found after a check carried out in closed circuits in the area.
In his statements to KYPE, Mr. Nikolaou stated that following a check carried out in closed circuits in the area, it was found that the driver of the car in question was not the 43-year-old arrested, but another person, 41, who had presented himself as the car's passenger.
According to the Police, the 41-year-old was expected to appear before the Paphos District Court for the imposition of a sentence in a pending case of a similar accident that occurred in 2019, in which serious injuries were also caused.
Mr. Nikolaou said that the case will be re-evaluated under the new data, in order to examine the modification of the charges facing the two persons.
