A fatal road collision occurred last night in Limassol, with the victim being Georgios Georgiou, 51 years old, formerly from Limassol.
The road collision occurred around 8.30pm, when a van driven by a 41-year-old man, on the old Limassol - Nicosia road, heading towards Limassol, at a certain point on the road (near the Moni flyover), under circumstances that are being investigated, collided with the motorcycle driven by the 51-year-old man.
The motorcyclist was seriously injured in the collision and was taken by ambulance to a private hospital in Limassol, where, despite the efforts of the treating doctors, he succumbed to his injuries.
The 41-year-old driver underwent an alcohol test, with a final reading of 48mg% instead of 22mg%.
A court warrant was issued against him, under which he was arrested to facilitate investigations.
The circumstances of the accident are being examined by the Limassol Traffic Police.
