Lawyer Efstathios Efstathiou is the new defense attorney of the former Governor of the Central Bank Christodoulou Christodoulou and the company of A. C. Christodoulou Consultants Ltd in the criminal case Focus after the appointment of the former lawyer of Mr. Christodoulos, Minister of Defense.
It is noted that Mr. Efstathiou is also a lawyer for Michalis Zolotas, Michalis Fole and Focus MaritimeCorp who are also accused in the same case. The accused in the case are also Christodoulos's daughter, Athena Christodoulou, her ex-husband Andrea Kizouridis and Marfin Investment Group - MIG (former Marfin Financial Group - MFG).
During today's hearing before the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia, Mr. Efstathiou submitted a request to the court to be given some time in order to be informed by Mr. Angelidis about the defense line and the evidence concerning Mr. Christodoulou.
Mr. Efstathiou also informed the court that he will meet with Mr. Angelidis as soon as he returns from abroad where he is for official purposes in the capacity of Minister of Defense.
The representative of the Prosecution Authority did not bring any objection to this request which was approved by the Court, judging it as justified and re-appointing the case within May, with the first court to be appointed on 9η May at 9 in the morning. Consequently, tomorrow's and the day after tomorrow's trial will be annulled.
The case concerns the alleged bribery of the former Governor of the Central Bank Christodoulos Christodoulou with € 1 million from the company Focus.
The presumption of innocence is valid for all the accused until his guilt is proved by the court beyond any reasonable doubt.
The case was registered in the Nicosia District Court in September 2016 and was referred to the Criminal Court in April 2017.
