The decision to dismiss the Chief of Police, Zacharias Chrysostomou, from his duties, was taken today by the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, who informed the Chief by letter and after the meeting they had in the morning at the Presidential Palace.
The President, after the resignation of Ionas Nikolaou yesterday, decided to stop the Chief of Police, in the midst of the controversial case with the murders of women by 35-year-old Nikos Metaxas, but also the strong reactions of parties and citizens for not taking responsibility.

The Chief of Police in the meeting he had this morning with President Anastasiadis, did not submit his resignation. Therefore, the President of the Republic decided to remove him from office.
In a letter to the Chief, the President shall state the reasons which led him to this decision. The President, who sent the letter after the meeting, expressed the position that there was apparent negligence or omission of police duties in the investigation of complaints about missing persons.
At the same time, it announces that taking into account the principle that the current head of an Authority is called upon to take responsibility for restoring the damaged prestige of the House, but also the resignation of the Minister of Justice for political reasons, the decision was made to terminate the Chief.
Finally, he expresses his warm thanks for the work done by Zacharias Chrysostomou and announces that the termination of the services will take effect on May 7, 2019.
The letter does not say who is taking over as police chief.
