The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Konstantinos Kombos paid a visit to Jordan yesterday.
As part of the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs had a private meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mr. Ayman Al Safadi, while extensive consultations were preceded by the participation of delegations from both sides.
At the center of the discussions were developments in the Middle East.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs recognized the decisive role played by Jordan and the efforts made by the country and the Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs himself to de-escalate and avoid aggravation of the situation.
Mr. Kombos reiterated the position of the Republic of Cyprus, which is based on absolute respect for international law, including international humanitarian law. He expressed the serious concerns of the Republic of Cyprus about the worsening humanitarian crisis and informed his interlocutor about the readiness of our country to contribute directly and substantially, in consultation with other partners, to the creation of a maritime humanitarian corridor for the relief of civilians in Gaza.
The two Ministers agreed to remain in contact and stressed the urgent need to create the necessary conditions, which would allow the start of negotiations for a solution to the Middle East on the basis of a two-state solution, which will coexist peacefully, as provided for in the relevant resolutions of the United Nations .
