The Democratic Party will not participate in the government, said its President Marios Karoyan, after his meeting on Tuesday with the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis.

"We will continue to govern on the basis of national reconciliation and social consensus without necessarily participating in governance, without consideration, without commitments," Mr Karoyan said.

Referring to the proposal of the Democratic Party for the presidency of the Parliament, he stated that "unfortunately a unique opportunity was lost to make all the necessary excesses and to create conditions of the widest unity that would lead our place safely to the new era" and said that he would speak immediately following days more extensively when a problem he faces with his voice is rectified.

Mr. Karoyan noted that he was informed about the intentions of the President of the Republic for the formation of a Government of wide acceptance and listened with special attention to the thoughts and concerns of the President.

"We were not waiting for this moment to talk about consensus. Throughout the election campaign we had a permanent pattern: national reconciliation, consensus, unity. "We will continue to govern on the basis of national reconciliation and social consensus without necessarily participating in governance, without consideration, without commitments," he added.

In fact, in view of "the serious risks and critical national issues that we have to manage the very next day, the Democratic Party will continue to behave responsibly, prudently, logically and serving the measure," he noted.

After all, he said, "proof of our intentions for wider consensus was exactly our proposal for the presidency of the Parliament, on the basis of which the message to the society would be given that in the face of serious problems the political forces away from party conflicts, harmful confrontations "They can reconcile and leave behind practices and attitudes that have proven ineffective in resolving the accumulated problems of the place and meeting the challenges of the times."

Mr. Karoyan said that "unfortunately, a unique opportunity was lost to make all the necessary excesses and to create conditions of the widest unity that would lead our place safely to the new era".

"For us, the immediate priority is the collective implementation of a hopeful vision that will allow the immediate launch of a comprehensive and effective plan of bold reforms and necessary cuts that society and the homeland need as much as ever," he noted.

"This is what the national interest demands, this is what society demands, this is what our young people expect," he added.

Asked if the issue of Angelos Votsis becoming a minister was raised, Mr. Karoyan answered "In no case".

He said he would speak more extensively in the coming days when his voice was restored. "I hope Thursday - Friday to say what I want to say", he said and added that what he will say will concern everything.

"I did not speak. Many spoke. I respect it, I appreciate it. Beyond that, however, I also have things to say. No fictions, facts. I will quote only facts, nothing else. "And everyone will draw their own conclusions," he said.

Asked if he implies that there are fictions, he said that he does not imply anything. "I will just be given the opportunity as someone who tried to create these national consensus and consensus to cite the facts. Nothing more. I will make no guesses, no interpretation of attitudes or political decisions. It is not my job ", he pointed out.

Not from Theopemptos

We have so many disagreements that we can not participate in the Government, said the President of the Ecologists 'Movement - Citizens' Cooperation, after today's meeting at the Presidential Palace with the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis.

Mr. Theopemptou said that "we are ready to contribute with our views, with good cooperation to promote the right policies regarding the environment, the right programs that will lead to the protection of the environment and the creation of jobs."

The President of the Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation said that "we discussed the various programs mentioned in the Recovery Fund in particular".

He pointed out that "we have a very large workload in Parliament in terms of reforms and especially the issues of the Recovery Fund which will create more jobs and for this reason we are ready to help as much as we can to promote the right policies that they will also create jobs, the environment, our society and our economy will be protected ”.

We have, however, added, "and a number of objections to the Government's stance on too many environmental issues and I have had the opportunity to convey these issues to the President and our environmental and other concerns with which we disagree. Government actions and policies ”.

Mr. Theopemptou said that “in the Recovery Fund a huge amount of around 400 million refer to Green Growth. "Which programs have been included and how they will be implemented, which choices will be made is of great importance if you will have the result you want", he pointed out.

He underlined that "Green Growth with the right policies is the one that creates a lot of jobs in all sectors".

"We also discussed the development of the mountainous areas, the communities of Akamas, because in this context you can really create jobs with the right policies," he said.

Asked if any support will be within the Government, Mr. Theopemptou replied: "Of course not. We have so many disagreements that we can not participate in the Government ".

He added: "I have not talked about support. "We are ready to contribute with our views, with good cooperation to promote the right policies regarding the environment, the right programs that will lead to the protection of the environment and the creation of jobs," he added.

Asked about the proposal for the presidency of the Parliament, Mr. Theopemptou said that “EDEK, DIPA and Ecologists had reached an agreement in which they agreed, from what I had understood both AKEL and DISY, where the election of its Secretary General would take place AKEL in the presidency of the Parliament and if, for example, in the 2023 elections, the President was elected, he came from a bloc that was inside and AKEL in support of the President would resign and the presidency of the Parliament would go to a DISY MP ".

Asked why this agreement broke down, Mr. Theopemptou stated that “I have not yet realized exactly what has broken down in the agreement but it broke down in the afternoon before the Plenary Session. You will have to go elsewhere to find out the details ".
