The unions OMEPEGE-SEK, SEGDAMELIN-PEO and DEE EMPORIKON DEOK are calling on the Larnaca Public Transport (LPT) company to implement the collective agreement for a 38-hour workweek, in order, as they state, to achieve labor peace.
The 120 employees of the company gathered at 05.30 this Wednesday at the Larnaca bus station and are carrying out a 48-hour strike.
On behalf of the three unions, Charalambos Avgousti, General Secretary of OMEPEGE – SEK, stated that "we are today at the Larnaca Central Bus Station together with the workers, having declared a 48-hour strike, following the violation of the collective labor agreement, which has been agreed upon for a year, following a proposal by the Ministry of Labor and acceptance by both sides."
He added that "while we have been in negotiations for the last two months, so that the company implements the collective labor agreement and the 38-hour workday article, it insists on its non-implementation. Therefore, we had no other choice, after the Ministry of Labor's statement of a blatant violation of the collective labor agreement, to go on a 48-hour strike, so as to demand the implementation of the collective labor agreement," he said.
We call, continued Mr. Avgoustis, "once again on the company to implement the agreements so that labor peace can be achieved in the Larnaca transport sector."
