The Republic of Cyprus was ready to send Turkey aid for the deadly earthquakes, but our request was rejected by the Turkish authorities. According with the press representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dimitris Dimitriou o the reason why Turkey did not accept the aid of the Republic of Cyprus was that they wanted reinforcement with heavy vehicles and machinery.
On the contrary, our offering was at full strengthi.e. 45 volunteers and civil defense personnel. The 45 volunteers and conscripts who would be sent to Turkey they were well trained in search and rescue.
As we were told by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the reason for rejecting the request it was not done for political reasons, but for purely technical reasons. It is noted that from the first moment Cyprus responded to Turkey's request for humanitarian aid through communication with the Response and Coordination Center of the European Union.
