"A further increase in hospitalizations in the coming days will put a brake on any relaxations and this week is set to shape the situation," said Dr. Maria Koliou.
In her intervention in the ANT1 show, "Mera Mesimeri", the Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Maria Koliou stated that the admissions to the hospitals and the Intensive Care Units are the most important factors to monitor the epidemiological picture.
"Since they are increasing, it is something that does not encourage us to de-escalate measures. Let us hope that the situation is controlled little by little and this will be the result of our own efforts," said Ms. Koliou.
He also said that the 225 patients with coronavirus is a record number, although the positive rates are not so high.
Dr. Koliou expressed the hope that the hospitalized patients will leave the hospitals faster since their average age is younger.
At the same time, he noted that the picture of increased admissions reflects the epidemiological picture of two weeks ago, while the increased hospitalizations in public hospitals show that the virus continues to exist in high percentages in the community.
Asked why people over the age of 90 die even though they have received both doses of the vaccine, she said that there are no clinical studies on this age group and that the immune system clearly does not have as many defenses as young people.
At the same time, Ms. Koliou pointed out that the solar limit for arranging a vaccination appointment is falling very fast, as she stressed that vaccines should not be missed.
Regarding the side effects, he noted that the risk of their occurrence is higher in young people and therefore the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine in some countries has been banned for people under 30.
Concluding, he expressed the belief that AstraZeneca vaccines will be consumed at the end since as he underlined it is an excellent vaccine and has proven its ability to protect the world.
