The first session of the National Council under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulidis has been completed.
During the session, President Christodoulidis informed the members of the body about the results of his contacts during his official visit to Greece, about the talks he had in Nicosia with the Deputy Secretary General of the UN, Rosemary DiCarlo, as well as about the contacts had in Brussels, on the sidelines of the session of the European Council and his participation in the session of the European People's Party (EPP), with the aim, among other things, of promoting his proposal for more active involvement of the European Union to end the impasse in the Cyprus issue.
After the end of the National Council, the President of the Democratic Party, Nikolas Papadopoulos, said that as DIKO they welcome the initiative of the President of the Republic, adding that the EU can work positively for the Cyprus issue.
Nikos Anastasiadis
The former President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, made statements after the end of the National Council.
Mr. Anastasiadis, regarding the involvement of the EU and the motivation for trying to restart dialogue, stated that "an initiative has been renewed that gives new dynamics for the involvement of the EU, which I fully support".
He added that they are completely consistent with the policies he followed in the past and with the re-election of the new President he brings a new dynamic proposal, after the clashes and therefore it is something that he is happy that everyone, even with the reservations of some, knows that we are heading in the right direction.
