The District Court of Larnaca today issued a detention order for eight days against a 31-year-old man, to facilitate the Police's investigations regarding an investigated case of conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, acts causing grievous bodily harm, illegal possession and use of a firearm and ammunition and illegal possession of explosives, offenses committed on Sunday, December 4 in Oroklini.

As the investigator of the case reported to the Court, around 06.35 on Sunday, information was received that a 42-year-old man had been shot five minutes earlier. As the 42-year-old mentioned, he had started his car from the parking lot where he lives in Oroklini, to go hunting with his six-year-old son and a 40-year-old man as co-driver.

According to the complaint to the Police, as soon as the 42-year-old left the parking lot, an unknown person fired several shots at the car.

Both the 42-year-old and the six-year-old were injured by the shots and they were taken to the Larnaca General Hospital, where tests revealed that the man had a wound in the abdomen and leg injuries, while the child had a penetrating wound and a fracture in the right leg.

At the Hospital, both the 42-year-old and the six-year-old underwent surgery and are hospitalized with their condition considered out of danger.

The 40-year-old was not injured by the shots, since he had managed to get out of the car.

According to what the investigator of the case reported before the Court, the scene was cordoned off by members of the Ministry of Defense and the Police Dog Branch and from the investigations carried out, 20 shells of 7,62 mm from a military rifle were found in the area.

The rifle was located approximately 200 meters from the scene before Pyla's exit, while a hood and a visor were located approximately 120 meters from the scene. A sports shoe was also found about 30 meters from where the shell casings were found.

The evidence, the case investigator said, indicates that the perpetrator fled towards the Rizoelia-Agia Napa road after the shootings.

He also said the gun and 200 rounds of ammunition had been reported stolen from a reservist's home between August 13 and 17.

Those found were sent for testing to the Institute of Genetics and other laboratories, while tests on the face mask identified genetic material of the 31-year-old suspect.

The Police proceeded to search the house, the vehicle, the property where he works as well as a property managed by his wife in Oroklini as well as the suspect's paternal residence, where various items of clothing and footwear as well as a mobile phone were located and taken.

It is noted that last night the Police issued a statement in which the photo and details of the 31-year-old suspect were made public, with the aim of gathering information that could lead to his identification, but to no avail.

Finally, around 9.45:31 on Wednesday night, the XNUMX-year-old presented himself at the Larnaca TAE offices, where he was arrested and taken into custody, while telling the investigators that "I don't know anything."

However, a short time later the suspect asked to speak to a police officer to whom he admitted committing the offenses and named a second person who appears to be involved in the case.

The investigator asked the Court to detain the suspect for eight days since, as he said, approximately 40 statements are expected to be taken from his family and friends, from residents of the area where the incident occurred and from nursing and medical staff of the Hospital where the 42-year-old was taken and the six-year-old.

A large amount of evidence has still been received and is expected to be sent for the necessary scientific examinations, closed circuit surveillance of the area will be examined, while suggestions of scenes will be made and information about the involvement of a second person in the case will be evaluated.

The suspect's defense attorney did not object to his client's detention and the Court issued an eight-day detention order against him.

It is noted that when the suspect was brought before the Court, draconian security measures were taken by the police, since their members were armed and wore bulletproof vests.

The suspect was also wearing a bulletproof vest, while only the people directly involved in the case remained in the courtroom.
