New Cyprus-wide operation of police checks to crack down on illegal stay in Cyprus
24 persons were identified and arrested, who resided illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus
The Police continued today the actions to identify third country nationals residing illegally in Cyprus, with a coordinated operation of police checks on a pan-Cypriot scale.
During today's control operation, members of the Police proceeded to arrest 24 persons of various nationalities, who, as it has been established, remain illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus. They were taken into custody, with the Police already proceeding with the procedures for their immediate repatriation, in cooperation with other competent authorities.
Today's operation started at 4.00 am and ended around 12.00 noon on Sunday. It was attended by members of the Foreigners and Immigration Service - YAM, as well as members of the Green Line Surveillance Sub-Directorate and Countering Migration Flows.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 8,500 persons who resided illegally in Cyprus have been repatriated, through the repatriation procedures of persons residing illegally in Cyprus. The efforts of the Police to locate and repatriate persons, who reside illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, continue daily.
