New decisions are expected to be taken during the meeting held in 1900 today, of the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis with the epidemiological advisory team, in the presence of the Minister of Health, after the new negative record of coronavirus cases recorded in Cyprus at the weekend.
On Saturday, the highest daily number of new cases was recorded COVID-19, since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cyprus, breaking the barrier of 300, and specifically 314, with a new cluster of 92 positive for the virus, in a slaughterhouse in Nicosia, the largest that has been identified to date. Another 116 new cases of the disease were announced on Sunday COVID-19 from a total of only 2.803 laboratory tests, but also the highest number of patients since the day of the pandemic, as a total of 77 patients are treated in the two hospitals of Famagusta and Nicosia.
Following Saturday's negative record, Government Spokesman Kyriakos Kousios, in a written statement issued on Sunday afternoon, announced that President Anastasiadis had convened a meeting with the epidemiological advisory group at the Presidential Palace on November 9, at 7 pm , in the presence of the Minister of Health, to evaluate the epidemiological picture and make relevant decisions after the increased number of coronavirus cases that have occurred.
Earlier, Professor of Microbiology / Molecular Virology of the Medical School of the University of Nicosia, member of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Coronavirus, Petros Karagiannis, had told KYPE when asked if the next step would be more stringent measures or reduction in number, if not of cases, that he believes that there will be a gradual tightening of measures, despite a lockdown, unless things get away with it drastically.
