The vehicle traffic meter which was installed within the framework of the GEOSTARS project on the road Karvouna - Troodos gives interesting data for the traffic in the Troodos National Forest Park.

According to information from the Department of Forests, the vehicle traffic meter that was installed within the GEOSTARS project on the road Karvouna - Troodos gives us interesting information about the traffic in the Troodos National Forest Park. For 2021, the meter recorded a total of 341 vehicle crossings to and from Troodos, a number that is increased by 056% compared to 13 (2020 crossings) and decreased by 302% compared to 373 (10 crossings) .

The highest number of crossings was observed in the first and last month of the year, with the highest traffic amounting to 5323 crossings on Sunday, December 26, 2021. The average number of crossings for 2021 was 934 vehicles per day, while on weekends and holidays it was 1 493 vehicles per day. By season, the average daily traffic observed in 2021 was: Winter 972, Spring 581, Summer 1 250 and Autumn 935 vehicles.

In addition to its ecological value, these measurements prove once again the exceptional importance of the Troodos National Forest Park as a visitable destination for recreation and are useful for the management of the Troodos National Forest Park in particular and the Troodos Geopark area in general.

The project entitled "Star Observation and Natural Environment - an alternative product for the development and promotion of the geoparks of the Eastern Mediterranean" with the acronym GEOSTARS http://geostars.eu/ is implemented within the Cooperation Program Interreg VA Greece - Cyprus 2014-2020 and is co-financed by European Union (ETFA) and from National resources of Greece and Cyprus. The meter was installed in collaboration with the Department of Forests and the Department of Public Works and was integrated into the DIAVLOS traffic metering system of the Department of Public Works, which we thank for the cooperation.
