More than five hundred new cases of coronavirus were recorded in a week in various school units in Cyprus, creating small chains of transmission, KYPE is informed.

Specifically, since last Monday, around 500 cases have been detected in 288 schools, a fact, however, which according to the information, does not seem to cause concern to the experts, since an increase in cases with the start of the new school year was expected, due to removing the use of the protective mask.

According to the same information, already today mobile units of the Ministry of Health rushed to two schools, in order to carry out rapid antigen detection tests (Rapid Test), with the aim of more effective control and limiting the spread of the virus.

As an authoritative source told KYPE, next week the mobile units will also be found in other schools to carry out tests, since the goal of the Ministry of Health is to carry out 5 thousand Rapid Test tests per month, to limit the spread of the virus.

The Cyprus News Agency contacted the Communications Advisor of the Ministry of Health, Konstantinos Athanassiou, who, when asked to comment on the information on the increase in cases in schools, said that "the situation is being monitored".

As Mr. Athanasiou mentioned, the Ministry of Health is monitoring the epidemiological picture, while he noted that where small chains are recorded, targeted surveillance will be carried out.

Asked if the Ministry of Health intends to convene a meeting with the Advisory Scientific Committee, Mr. Athanasiou said that for the time being he does not intend to do so, to note that the situation is being monitored and if necessary the corresponding actions will be taken.
