The authorities are greatly concerned by the fact that our country was used as a transit station in at least two cases, involving a total of one ton of synthetic drugs.
The two loads of hard drugs took exactly the same route. They arrived by air in paper barrels from India, were stored at a customs clearance company in Larnaca and their final destination was Lithuania.
The first shipment, which arrived a few days before this one seized last Wednesday, cleared customs and airlifted to Lithuania. The authorities of the European country detected it and immediately informed the authorities of the Republic, who began to carry out investigations in order to ascertain whether there is another load of drugs.
This is how they found it on October 25th at a customs clearance company at the old Larnaca airport 50 paper barrels, which contained crystalline substance weighing 500 kilograms.
The drugs are being analyzed by the State Chemistry and the first indications, according to his information filenews, demonstrate that it is a type of ephedrine and not mephedrone, as was initially estimated.
Ephedrine is a dangerous psychotropic and stimulant drug, which does not need processing and the value of the cargo seized in Cyprus exceeds €1 million. When the report is officially delivered by the State Chemistry then a request for judicial assistance will be submitted to the Lithuanian authorities, with with which there is already cooperation.
So far, however, the involvement of a Cypriot in the international hard drug trafficking ring has not been revealed, however, according to information, this possibility cannot, at this stage, be ruled out. In her microscope YKAN other cargoes that passed through Cyprus are found, while cargos arriving are also being examined. It is recalled that the 500 kg of drugs is the largest amount ever seized in Cyprus.
