As part of the evaluation of evidence related to the illegal importation and trading of large quantities of firecrackers and sparklers, members of YKAN placed under discreet surveillance a specific warehouse of an import and transport company in Limassol.
Around 9.30 am yesterday a container arrived at the warehouse which was checked in the presence of the warehouse manager and it was found that it contained two pallets with paper boxes inside which there were firecrackers.
A little later, a car with three people in it arrived at the warehouse. The passenger entered the warehouse and after a few minutes, with various documents in his hands, returned to the car and they left.
The vehicle in question was stopped by the members of YKAN where during the check it was found that the driver of the car was 26 years old while the passengers were two other people aged 23, all residents of Nicosia province.
During the investigation that followed, various documents related to the importation of the goods through the specific company were found inside the vehicle, while the 26-year-old was found in possession of €2,170, while in the possession of one of the 23-year-olds, the amount of €12,230 plus 5,235 Turkish Liras.
An investigation followed in the above warehouse where two pallets containing a total of 303,000 firecrackers were unloaded and received for further examination.
The three persons were arrested on the basis of court warrants and taken into custody while the TAE Limassol continues the examinations.
