The Council of Ministers decided on Wednesday, the voluntary financial assistance to persons under private law as well as natural and legal persons under private law for the damages caused in the province of Limassol by the tornado on February 14, said the Minister of the Interior Konstantinos Ioannou, adding that "we will proceed immediately with the payment if the deadline expires on March 15".

Aid was decided to be granted to those affected by the extreme weather and floods that hit the Kormakiti community in Kyrenia province, he noted.

In his statements after the Cabinet meeting, Mr. Ioannou stated that approximately 191 residences, 19 commercial properties and 104 vehicles were damaged. He noted that a categorization has been made and depending on the category that concerns private homes, equipment for example will be provided to those who do not have insurance financial assistance of 80% with a maximum of €20.000. Those who have insurance will be offered a maximum of €3.000, the amount deducted from the excess waiver.

The same philosophy, he pointed out, also applies to rental housing, commercial real estate.

Mr. Ioannou said that those who have not submitted an application, the deadline expires on March 15 and will be examined by a three-member committee consisting of a civil engineer and technicians from the municipality of Limassol, while in case of objection a committee was created by the Prefect of Limassol and the Senior Administrative Officer and civil engineering for examination.

"We will proceed immediately with the payment if the deadline expires on March 15", he added.

Financial assistance to those affected by Kormakitis
The Minister of the Interior said that the Council of Ministers decided on the voluntary financial aid for humanitarian reasons to those affected by the extreme weather and floods that hit the Kormakiti community in the province of Kyrenia.

“The affected private properties were not covered by insurance due to being in the uncontrolled areas and specifically an amount will be given. €87.086 has been estimated for housing and €48.000 will be given to the Community Council for infrastructure and road network projects," he noted.

He stated that damages to private residences up to 1.000 euros will be covered in full and more than 1.000 euros by 80%.
