Paralimni is "drowning" in dust today - Dust levels throughout Cyprus are "red"

The atmosphere is suffocating from yesterday afternoon throughout Cyprus, due to the particularly high concentrations of suspended dust particles, which have far exceeded the average daily value of 50 μg / m3.

The Head of the Air Quality Department, Chrysanthos Savvidis, spoke about a serious incident, due to which the whole of Cyprus suffered yesterday, as there was an outbreak of the phenomenon.

It was, he said, one of the worst episodes we had on the island.

It is noted that from yesterday at 16.00 in the afternoon Cyprus is in the "red".

Yesterday the prices reached up to 720 μg / m3 with a limit of 50.

This morning the prices arrived:

Nicosia - 300 μg / m3

Limassol - 224 μg / m3

Larnaca - 387 μg / m3

Lakeside - 345 μg / m3

Balance - 210 μg / m3

Paphos - 178 μg / m3

Agia Marina Xyliatou - 120 μg / m3

Mr. Savvidis recommended special attention to the vulnerable groups of the population and especially to the apes.

In particular, adults with respiratory problems, heart disease, the elderly and children with respiratory problems should limit all outdoor activities and physical activity.

According to the Director of the Meteorological Service, Kleanthi Nikolaidis, a decline is expected in the afternoon and tonight, but the phenomenon will not leave us and will affect the island tomorrow as well. Mud rain is expected on Wednesday and Thursday.

This is a difficult phenomenon, points out Mr. Nikolaidis, but the future is not auspicious, we must now learn to live with it, as it will often affect us, since it is part of climate change.
