The extreme temperatures that have prevailed recently, on the one hand, create unsuitable working conditions in the classrooms and on the other hand, endanger the health of thousands of children, teachers and support staff, states, in its announcement, the POED.
He notes, at the same time, that in recent days he has been constantly receiving messages from both teachers and parents and students "about the truly unacceptable conditions" prevailing in the classrooms.
"We recognize the political will of the Ministry of Defense and the Government to provide solutions to the above serious problem, following the relevant decision of the Council of Ministers. Despite the fact that the installation of air conditioners has begun in a small number of schools at the initiative of organized parents and school authorities, there is an immediate need to speed up all those procedures required by the Ministry of the Interior, so that air conditioners are installed as early as possible in all the classrooms," the organization adds.
The FOED also states that, until a definitive solution to the problem is given, the competent bodies, evaluating the data, should take other additional actions to alleviate the problem.
"In cases where extreme temperatures are recorded, even the possibility of interrupting classes and leaving children earlier than the specified end time should be considered by the Ministry of Education. As POED, we will continue to push in every direction for a definitive resolution of the issue", concludes the organization in its announcement.
