POED calls on the Ministries of Education and Health to review their decisions on primary and kindergartens given the epidemiological picture.
A statement said that at a time when the epidemiological data of our country confirm the difficulty we are in, "contradictory and wrong decisions are made in relation to the operation of schools."
POED wonders why within 24 hours the original decree of the Ministry of Health was differentiated, excluding Public and Private Kindergartens from the emergency measures and notes that according to the Legislation, the term "Primary Education" includes Primary, Pre-Primary and Special Education schools, something which was also used in the original decree.
"As an Organization we consider the final decision taken and provides for the physical presence of children of Pre-Primary Education and their Teachers in schools on January 7 and 8, contradictory since in the midst of a pandemic, above all, Public Health must be," says the ΠΟΕΔ.
He also expressed concern about the proper functioning of the Kindergartens, given, as he states, the justified absence of many teachers to take care of their children and the difficulty in finding a large number of substitutes in the Kindergartens within this suffocatingly narrow time frame.
Regarding the operation of Primary Schools, the POED states that the directive of the Ministry for conducting distance education with the physical presence of teachers in all schools, "is in complete contradiction with the decree of the Ministry of Health of December 29, which concerns the operation of the wider Public Sector, only with security personnel ”.
Regarding the technological equipment of the school units and the provision of distance education, POED emphasizes that it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education to provide the means and equipment to teachers and students, for distance education.
He notes that unfortunately this is something that has not been achieved until today, despite the repeated reports of the Ministry about readiness, but also the announcements for the purchase of a number of computers.
"Therefore, and in order to make clear the shortcomings that exist in our schools in technological equipment, we urge our colleagues, on Thursday and Friday to work with the equipment of their school units. At the same time, we call on the school administrations to record the deficiencies and the problems of their school equipment, so that the needs and the problems that exist are transparent ", concludes POED.
