At noon and something, the specialist pulmonologist Dr. was hosted. Haris Armeftis, who spoke about the outbreak of the pandemic in Cyprus, while clarifying whether there are differences between the Delta mutation and the Omicron.

The pulmonologist also talked about which test is right to do if we have symptoms and how we should use self tests. He basically stated that when someone has symptoms they should do PCR test and not stay in the results of rapid or self tests.

He initially said things were not going well. "Our focus is on the intensive care units," he said, adding that it was difficult to stop the situation.

Dr. Armeftis stressed that any hospitalizations of people who are positive now will be seen in 10 to 15 days.

Regarding the possibility of imposing a lockdown, he said that such a thing is not discussed, but if in the next few days we cross the red line of the intensive care units, then things will change. He added that the lack of a bed in the intensive care unit is considered a threat to public health. "Then the imposition of stricter measures is the only way."

He pointed out that it is time for everyone to make their own decisions. "It's the moment we all need to work together and understand the urgency of the moment," he said.

He also spoke about the differences between Delta and Omicron, explaining that "there is no difference in symptoms and they continue to relate to respiratory infections, such as fever, nasal congestion and malaise. "Anyone with these symptoms is likely to have Omicron," he said.

He explained that if someone has symptoms and has a negative rapid test, then they should also have a PCR. He said that scientifically this is the right process while he stressed that until the results come out the individual must limit himself.

Finally, he was asked about their self tests and their reliability. He said that their sensitivity is low while at the same time he added that these tests should be done as well, since it is a form of examination. If someone has symptoms, he will not be limited there, even if the result is negative, said Dr. Armeftis.

The only way is the PCR test and only with a negative result can one continue his activities. He concluded that everyone should personally observe the self-protection measures.
