23 years in prison for possession of 628 kilos of MDMA drugs

Concerns the seizure of 628 kilos of MDMA by the Australian Authorities in collaboration with the Cyprus Police (YKAN) and the United Kingdom

A 23-year-old man was sentenced by the Limassol Permanent Criminal Court today to 628 years in prison for the case of export and possession for the purpose of supplying to other persons, quantity of MDMA drugs, weighing 63,3 kilos and 59 grams. The case was investigated by the Anti-Drug Service in Limassol.

The large quantity of drugs was confiscated by the Australian Authorities in December 2019, after many months of cooperation with the Cyprus Authorities, and in particular the Cyprus Police, following information held by the Cyprus Police and in particular YKAN, regarding the transfer of a large quantity of drugs from Cyprus to Australia.

The relevant information was transmitted to the Australian Authorities, in early July, 2019, in the framework of the International Cooperation and the efforts of the Cyprus Police (YKAN), to combat the drug phenomenon. Following the information of the Australian Authorities and with the cooperation of Cyprus and the United Kingdom, 628 kg of MDMA, worth a total of 25 million Australian dollars, were confiscated in Sydney, Australia.

Two people were arrested in Australia for the case, while in Cyprus, the 59-year-old was brought to justice, as well as another person, a 32-year-old man. The second defendant, in a previous trial, was also sentenced by the Permanent Criminal Court to four years in prison, for the crime of conspiracy to commit a crime.
