Complaints for violations of personal data by parties and candidates for MPs in this pre-election period are significantly reduced, as the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection Irini Loizidou Nikolaidou stated in KYPE.

As Ms. Loizidou told KYPE, to date, 20 cases have reached her office concerning allegations of personal data breaches by parties and candidates. Of these 20, 16 have been examined, of which 2 have been withdrawn by the citizens, while in most of them the administrative sanction of the warning has been issued.

As he explained, since the violations and therefore the complaints were not repeated, the sanction that has been imposed is that of warning, while if the illegalities are repeated, there will be a tightening.

The 20 complaints that have reached her office are quite reduced, said the Commissioner to KYPE, noting that if we consider the increased number of parties and candidates in these elections, personal data breaches have been at very low levels.

As she explained, her Office, which operated proactively, has played an important role in this. Specifically, the instructions sent by the Commissioner's Office to the parties since January and the reminder given to them about a month ago, contributed significantly to the reduction of violations and therefore of complaints, said Ms. Loizidou.

Concluding, she said that on the day of the elections, her office will continue the on-the-spot checks for violations of personal data by parties and candidates and called on the citizens to file complaints if they find illegalities.
