The "lefkart" exhibition was held for the 4th year in Larnaca

For the fourth year, on Friday, January 21, the exhibition "Lefkart" was held by the Foundation for Cultural Creation for Children and Youth, Larnaca District and the Phoebus Stavridis Foundation-Larnaca Archives with the support of the Cyprus Youth Organization.

A written announcement of the Municipality states that with the realization of this exhibition the program "The Lefkarite Embroidery-Source of Inspiration" was completed, which was subsidized, as in previous years, by the Plan for the Preservation and Strengthening of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The program aimed at transmitting all the information of Leukarite embroidery as a source of inspiration for young people and was addressed to the teachers of Secondary General and Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training ".

Through seminars held "which focused on the historical development of Leukarite embroidery and the possibility of using its elements in the applied arts, teachers and students studied the historical context of Lefkarite Embroidery and its patterns in order to create works of art inspired by it" .

According to the announcement, the "lefkart" exhibition is the completion of the program. A total of nine secondary schools participate in the exhibition and present works by their students, based on the idea of ​​Leukarite embroidery as conveyed by their trainees / teachers. This year, for the first time, the exhibition takes place at the Center for Popular Creativity of the Municipality of Larnaca, which is housed in the Multipurpose Center for Creativity and Culture (Former Larnaca Club - Mattei House) ".

It is noted that "the choice of this space was based on the coexistence of students' works of art with the Folk Arts workshops housed in the Multipurpose Center for Creativity and Culture."

The exhibition will be open until February 4, 2022 (except Sunday) and the hours that the public can visit it are from ten in the morning until five in the afternoon.
