The Police advise the public to be particularly careful, following complaints that have been made regarding suspicious individuals who communicate with citizens in the Greek language and pose as Social Service officers. The perpetrators ask unsuspecting citizens for their bank account numbers, supposedly with the aim of refunding money, as a result of which they gain access and, by extension, steal money from their accounts.
The public is urged to be particularly cautious and take the following protective measures:
To NOT respond to the calls and instructions received from the perpetrators
Not to disclose to other persons sensitive information such as passwords, usernames and PINs, identity details and bank card and account details.
Citizens can verify the identity of the individuals calling them by contacting them through the official channels of the Services that these individuals claim to represent.
