The Department of Electromechanical Services informs the consumer public about dangerous products, which include, among others, chargers, an electric bicycle, a mixer and a heater. The products, it says, were notified according to an information received from the Consumer Protection Service during the 32nd week of 2025, through the website of the European Union (EU) early warning system for dangerous non-food products (Safety Gate).
The Department calls on importers, distributors, sellers who may have placed or are placing such products on the market of the Republic of Cyprus to immediately stop their distribution and notify the Department. It is noted that in the event of a recall, the above economic operators must take all necessary measures so that the products are immediately recalled from the market.
The Department also calls on consumers in the event that they possess these products, where appropriate, to stop using them and return them immediately to the point from which they were purchased, informing the seller accordingly. Anyone who knows of points of sale of the above products is also requested to contact the Department immediately.
It is noted that according to the Certain Aspects of Contracts for the Sale of Goods Law of 2021, in the event of the purchase of a non-conforming product, the consumer is entitled to a replacement of the product, so that the product complies with the terms of the sales contract. If this is not possible, then the consumer is entitled to withdraw, i.e. to return the product to the seller and receive back the full amount paid. It is recalled that the above rights are valid for a period of two years from the initial delivery of the product to the consumer and that the sole liability towards the consumer always lies with the final seller.
In the event that the seller refuses to respond to the above rights of the consumer, the consumer is invited to submit his complaint in writing through the website of the Consumer Protection Service.
