The Police have received complaints from citizens about fraud through telephone calls, allegedly made on behalf of a financial transaction and payment platform or other organizations. The perpetrators of the fraud aim to steal personal data and extract money from citizens' bank accounts.
According to the complaints made today to the Police, the perpetrators of the fraud are calling citizens via Cypriot or other telephone numbers, which in reality have no connection with the person calling and using an answering machine, they are calling citizens to follow instructions, telling them to select specific numbers from their phone keypad, in order to confirm and approve supposedly transactions or payments that concern them.
In light of these new complaints, the Police advise the public to be particularly careful, pointing out that these calls are fraudulent.
In cases where citizens are actually awaiting the processing of their pending online transactions, they are urged to always verify any calls or messages they receive before proceeding to complete any transaction or payment. Such verification and checking should be done through the official and notified communication channels of the organizations involved.
