Scams are on the rise with people impersonating EAC and Water Supply employees, with the aim of deceiving unsuspecting citizens.

In the first case, against a 42-year-old Greek Cypriot from Limassol, testimony emerged that he was involved in two cases of theft from residences and a judicial arrest warrant was issued against him and he was wanted. Around 9 am, the Police located him and handcuffed him.

Later today he will be presented at the District Court of Limassol, for the issuance of an arrest warrant.

How he cheated the old ladies

On 22.3.23 the 42-year-old went to the residence of a 77-year-old woman in Limassol and pretended to be a partner of the EAC and would help the 77-year-old woman to repair a power failure, after apparently turning off the main power switch himself.

He then escaped her attention and stole the sum of €450 from her residence, while it seems he restored the electricity by turning on the switch.

On 24.3.23 the suspect went to the residence of a 76-year-old woman and repeated the same scenario.

After entering her residence he stole her wallet which contained the sum of €200, her Identity Card, her Driver's License and her credit card, which he then used in an ATM machine and made three withdrawals of €200, €150 and €100 .

The first case occurred in Mesa Geitonia and the second case in the Katholiki area.
