The District Court of Nicosia imposed a monetary fine of 10 thousand euros on a company active in the field of metal constructions, for violations concerning safety and health regulations at work and which resulted in the injury of its employee, as well as the exposure of other persons who worked in said company.
In a statement, the Department of Labor Inspection of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance states that it has initiated criminal proceedings against the company in question, which violated the provisions of the legislation, on matters of safety and health at work.
According to the TEE, as a result of the prosecution, the District Court of Nicosia sentenced the specific company that operates, among others, in the metal construction sector, to a total fine of €10.000 for violations of the Minimum Safety and Health Standards (Use of Work Equipment at Work) Regulations and Occupational Health and Safety Laws, which caused the serious injury of its employee and put its employees at risk.
Specifically, the court condemned the company in question for failing to apply a safe work method, during the process of moving metal beams using a crane, as a result of which its employee, who was involved in moving the metal beams, was seriously injured.
Also, the company was condemned for failing to provide appropriate information and instructions for use, training and supervision of its employees.
