The priority of the Convention, with which the KEBE agrees, is for natural gas to come to Cyprus immediately, for the production of cheap electricity, said the President of the KEBE, Christodoulos Agastiniotis, after the meeting of the Executive Committee of the KEBE with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, at the Presidential Office, on Tuesday.

During the meeting, which was also attended by the Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, many issues related to the KEBE, the economy and the political problem were discussed, said Mr. Agastiniotis in his statements after the conclusion of the meeting.

In relation to the Cyprus issue, the President of the KEBE stated that "we are fully aligned with the Government", noting the actions of the KEBE, regarding the cooperation with the Turkish Cypriots, the Green Line, meetings with Colin Stuart and the participation of the KEBE in the bicommunal committee on the economy.

Answering a question regarding trade on the Green Line, Mr. Agastiniotis said that the KEBE is a partner in the matter of the Green Line Regulation, emphasizing the cooperation of the KEBE with the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce (KTTO), with which since 1973 there is an agreement. "We are planning many joint actions, in order to facilitate, within the framework of legality and justice, the strengthening of commercial relations between the two communities and the facilitation of Turkish Cypriot businesses to harmonize with European standards", he noted.

Regarding the issue of the exploitation of natural gas, Mr. Agastiniotis, answering a question, stated that the Government's priority is correct for part of the natural gas deposits, which exist in the EEZ, to come to Cyprus so that cheap electricity can be produced. "The deposits we have are much more than the needs of Cyprus, so we will not disappoint our partners, Israel, Egypt, etc.," he noted, adding that the deposits of Cyprus today do not exceed 20-22% of the deposits .

"First we will bring natural gas to Cyprus for power generation and then or at the same time, the processes will be carried out to implement its marketability", he said, stressing that the cost of electricity for households and businesses is "unacceptably unbearable".

Other issues that the KEBE discussed with President Christodoulidis were labor issues, the evolution of ATA, trade and industry issues, port tariffs, the technology park in Pentakomos. Business problems such as electricity costs, rising labor costs, labor shortages, the policy of employing third-country nationals and more were also discussed.

"We expressed our positive opinion about the actions that are being taken, but we stated that we will all be judged by the result. We hope that what was announced will be respected and implemented as soon as possible", he noted, mentioning that various things have been agreed upon, which the President will announce when he is ready.

Earlier, the President of the Republic welcomed the President and the members of the Institute of Hellenic Culture to the Presidential Hall. No statements were made after the meeting.
