More than 160 services offered by the public service are in the process of being computerized as part of the digital reform of the public service, the Deputy Minister of Innovation, Key Research and Digital Policy told the Parliamentary Committee on Trade, Energy, Industry and Tourism.
According to DISY President Andreas Kyprianou, after the meeting of the Commission at the KYPE, the Undersecretary proceeded with a detailed presentation on the digital reform, which will result in huge savings in human resources, speeding up the reduction of public service. bureaucracy, but also creating competitiveness for the Cypriot economy.
Unfortunately, he said, Cyprus is still digitally illiterate as the country ranks last in EU surveillance. He added that much needs to be done, Cyprus's connectivity needs to be improved and staff training needs to be done properly. .
"We consider all actions taken to be extremely important to improve the competitiveness of the Cypriot economy through these reforms," he said.
Regarding the timetable for the implementation of the digital reform, Mr. Kyprianou said that the Deputy Minister, depending on the service, told them that some can be digitized in three to six months, others in a year, and the maximum that a service will need to digitized is eighteen months.
At the same time, he noted the contribution of the Ministry of the Interior in dealing with the crisis of the corona, mainly in relation to the allowances of the Ministry of Labor, the electronic registration in schools, the classification of new recruits, the tele-education, etc.
Transportation of oil tanks from Larnaca
At the same time, the Commission discussed the issue of removing oil reservoirs from the Larnaca coastal front.
Mr Kyprianou said the commission would meet again on July 7, after the Energy Ministry pledged to call on all involved to find a solution to the problems and efforts to move oil and gas reserves from Larnaca to the Energy Center. .
In a written statement, DISY MP Annita Dimitriou said that regarding the final movement of oil tanks from the coastal front of Larnaca, there was and is a specific timetable for the end of the year and unfortunately due to the pandemic a delay has been created.
He expressed particular concern about the dispute between the Cyprus Port Authority and companies over the issue of anchorage and LPG pipelines, and said this needed to be clarified.
"We cannot and will not accept any further extension or delay, especially due to the specific disagreement regarding the development of our city and province and we are absolutely sure that with the appropriate coordination and understanding any disagreement can be bridged. We do not need to stress that the whole removal process is directly linked to the development of the port of Marina and that is why no further delay can be given, "he said.
He added that all pending issues should be clarified and through the coordinating competence of the Ministry to finalize the timetables, without disagreements.
He also said that a meeting and a meeting between the bodies involved through the Ministry has been scheduled for Monday so that a solution can be found for the whole issue and the competent Parliamentary Committee will repeat its meeting on July 7.
