PD in the EPP: The Cyprus and Ukrainian issues are European problems

The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, addressed today the proceedings of the Summit of the European People's Party, which is taking place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

In his speech, President Anastasiadis said, among other things, that "we stand by Ukraine and its people and will continue to do so for as long as necessary."

He also stressed the need for global implementation of the sanctions imposed on Russia in order to have a successful outcome, noting that, unfortunately, these efforts are being thwarted by some countries.

He also stressed the need to focus on diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukrainian issue.

The President of the Republic underlined that the "Ukrainian wound" reflects what the Cypriots experienced by drawing parallels between the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Moscow's pretexts to justify the invasion were used by Turkey to invade Cyprus, he said.

"Since then, despite our efforts and the myriad of UN Security Council resolutions, Turkey has not only not been involved in the efforts to reach a lasting and lasting political solution, in line with the resolutions, but instead has been working hard at sea and on the ground.

"The Cyprus and Ukrainian issues are European problems and we know very well that we can not build the Europe we want and deserve if these revisions are not stopped."

Finally, he stated that "as President of a country divided for 48 years, I am able to say that the security architecture of Europe and the sense of security we can offer to our citizens is the most pressing issue for each of us."

The President of the Republic is accompanied in Rotterdam by the Government Spokesman Mr. Marios Pelekanos and the Undersecretary to the President Mr. Kyriakos Kousios.
