The weather scene is changing, as a cold air mass will affect the Cyprus region from Wednesday to Friday, bringing low temperatures and isolated rainfall, as Meteorological Officer Andreas Chrysanthou told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) on Monday, adding that these phenomena will be accompanied by strong winds, mainly on Wednesday and Thursday.
As Mr. Chrysanthou told CNA, the warm air mass that is affecting Cyprus today, accompanied by dust, will begin to recede starting tomorrow, Tuesday.
Mr. Chrysanthou said that a significant weather change is expected from Wednesday onwards, adding that a drop in temperature will be observed tomorrow as well, with temperatures 4-5°C lower than today.
He noted that this drop will be even more noticeable on Wednesday, with the arrival of a cold air mass that will lead to temperatures lower than the average values of the season. On Wednesday, Mr. Chrysanthou said, local rains are expected, possibly isolated storms, while on the highest peaks of the Troodos, sleet is not ruled out.
He pointed out that low temperatures will continue until Friday, with Wednesday being the main day of rain. He noted that local rains are expected in many areas of the island, especially in the west and in the mountains. Rainfall, he continued, is expected to be limited on Thursday and Friday, mainly in mountainous areas.
In addition, he stated that along with the other phenomena and especially the drop in temperature on Wednesday, strong to very strong southwest to northwest winds are expected, while on Thursday the northern wind field will strengthen, due to the descent of the cold air mass. He also said that the temperature will remain at low levels and the winds will weaken on Friday.
