The House of Representatives honors and mourns today a modest man, who throughout his public life, demonstrated genuine morals and selfless, unconditional love for his country and people, who fought with them the good, leaving a strong imprint on our modern political culture, said the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Dimitriou, in her reference to the Plenary session of the House, on the death of the former Minister and Member of Parliament of Cyprus Chrysostomidis.

"Kypros Chrysostomidis passed away yesterday, a man who graced the seats of the House of Representatives and our political life as a whole with his presence," he added.

He stated that Cyprus Chrysostomidis was the Government Representative of the Tassos Papadopoulos government from 2003 to 2006 and the Minister of Justice and Public Order of the Dimitris Christofias government from February to December 2008.

He noted that from 2006 to 2008 he served as Nicosia Member of Parliament of AKEL-Aristera-Nees Dynames, contributing to the implementation of the work of the Parliament from the position of the Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Interior and the member of the Parliamentary Committees on European Affairs, Institutions, Values ​​and Commissioner for Administration, Legal and Transport and Works and participating in the Parliament's delegation to the Conference of the European Affairs Committees of the Parliaments of the Member States of the European Union.

He also mentioned that born in Kathika, Paphos in 1942, Kypros Chrysostomidis showed an interest in the public from a very early age and developed a rich and meaningful political, scientific and professional activity.

He said, at the same time, that after finishing his studies, he worked at the Human Rights Committee of the Council of Europe, where he participated in the investigation into the examination of the charges against the Athens junta and in the formulation of the committee's damning report.

He noted that in 1998 he founded the Center Reconstruction Initiative, of which he served as president until his death. He was also the president of the Institute for Political Research and European Affairs, a member of important European and international scientific societies and organizations, as well as a founding member of the Consumers Association.

As he mentioned, during his long career he was distinguished for his honesty, conscientiousness, erudition and legal acumen.

He was, among other things, continued the President of the House, one of the first lawyers who defended refugees and other victims of the Turkish invasion in cases before the European Court of Human Rights.

"He bequeaths us a rich research and writing work on the international aspect of the Cypriot, human rights and political life in Cyprus", he added and underlined that the life and work of Kypro Chrysostomidis are not limited to the above.

Expressing the body's deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, Ms. Dimitriou invited the Plenary to observe a minute of silence in his memory.
